On September 27, six families from the city of Barcelona got off to a good start with a good reason to celebrate. All of them have received the keys to the new homes that, every month, the Barcelona Housing Consortium awards to families in a social and economic emergency. The event was led by the alderwoman for Housing and Rehabilitation of the Barcelona City Council, Lucía Martín, who gave a warm welcome to the families awarded before the delivery of the keys.
The homes, from the Social Rental Fund, are intended for all those families who are at risk of residential exclusion, due to a process of eviction for rental debt, foreclosure, or dation in payment for the debt of mortgage payments, as well as to be in a situation of losing housing due to gender violence, or if minors, elderly people or people in circumstances of homelessness in precarious hygienic and sanitary or safety conditions live in the home.
Families who find themselves in any of these situations can apply for housing by making an appointment at the Barcelona Housing Offices through the “Habitatge et truca” (Housing is calling you) telephone service so that their case can be assessed and a report drawn up.
In this regard, the Emergency Board is the body that, each month, examines all the files issued and to allocate the homes available from the Social Rental Fund. The data of the adjudications can be consulted in this link.
If the number of positively evaluated files exceeds the number of available addresses, housing will be allocated, as they are incorporated into the Social Rental Fund, until the Emergency Board is held next month.
