The Emergency Board for the month of August, held on Monday, September 5, handed over the keys to new housing to nine families in vulnerable situations. Every month, the Barcelona Housing Consortium assigns new apartments from the Social Rental Fund to people in social and economic emergencies. The ceremony was attended by the alderwoman for Housing and Rehabilitation of the Barcelona City Council, Lucía Martín, to welcome the families.
The homes of the Social Rental Fund are intended for cohabitation units at risk of residential exclusion, such as being in the process of eviction due to rental debt, foreclosure, or surrender of the property as payment for a mortgage debt, in a situation of residential exclusion due to domestic violence, or the property in question there are minors, elderly people or those living in a situation of neglect, in precarious hygienic, sanitary and safety conditions.
If a person is in a situation of vulnerability can access housing from the Social Rental Fund. Therefore, it is necessary to make an appointment at the Barcelona Housing Office to be assessed and a report of the case is prepared. The Emergency Board is responsible for studying the files that have been issued from the Offices and to allocate housing from the Social Rental Fund. You can consult the data of the assignments here.
In the event that there are not enough apartments available to meet the needs of the applicants, housing from the ‘Pisos Buits’ (Empty Flats) program will be allocated as they are incorporated into the Social Rental Fund until the Emergency Board is held the following month. The information and rules of the Emergency Board can be found on the website of the Barcelona Housing Consortium.
