Two families in Barcelona are already enjoying a new home where they can settle in the city, once they have received the keys from the Barcelona City Council. All the housing units are the result of the action of the Emergency Board, the mechanism that the Barcelona Housing Consortium uses to allocate apartments from the Social Rental Fund.
The allocation of these housing units is done every month throughout the year and is aimed at people facing social and economic emergencies. This is the case for the beneficiary families this month, who will be settling in homes located in the district of Ciutat Vella.
These families have followed the steps established in the procedure to obtain a new home. First, they approach the Barcelona Housing Offices with a prior appointment to request an evaluation and a report on their particular situation. From there, the Emergency Board will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing the applications received from the offices to allocate the housing units. All allocations can be checked through this link.
To qualify for this relocation system, individuals must be in a situation of social and economic emergency, such as being in the process of eviction due to rental debt, foreclosure, or surrender of the property as payment for a mortgage debt, or the property in question there are minors, elderly people or those living in a situation of neglect, in precarious hygienic, sanitary and safety conditions.
In cases where the number of available housing units is insufficient to address all requests, the Emergency Board will allocate housing units as they become available in the Social Rental Fund until the next Emergency Board meeting is held. Information and the regulations of the Emergency Board can be found on the website of the Barcelona Housing Consortium.
