The keys have been handed over for six flats in a block of public housing at Av. Vallcarca, 93, in the district of Gràcia. The 14 homes in the block have been allocated to rehouse families affected by the urban transformation of the neighbourhood, such as the green rambla in the Farigola neighbourhood, and to families on the Barcelona Register of Applicants for Officially Protected Housing.
The families moving into the flats will pay monthly rents of between 514 and 756 euros according to the floor space of the flats, which together with communal costs will not exceed 40% of their household income.
The building consists of a ground floor and five upper floors, with an entrance at Av. Republic Argentina, 96, and another ground floor and two upper floors at Av. Vallcarca, 93. Nine of the 14 homes have three bedrooms and five have two. The three-bedroom flats have floor areas of between 75 and 90 square metres, while the two-bedroom flats have between 55 and 66 square metres. The building has two yards that are connected via the basement, plus a communal terrace and some commercial premises on the ground floor.
The block is part of the 204 new homes with official protection resulting from the transformation under way in Vallcarca. The process should significantly increase the stock of affordable housing in Gràcia, a very dense district with very little land available.
