The Barcelona City Council, through the Municipal Institute of Housing and Rehabilitation, invites all those interested to attend the informative meeting that will take place on January 10, 2023, in the district of Sant Andreu, where two outstanding public housing developments will be the main protagonists. Specifically, the session will serve to learn the details of the Trinitat Vella and Casernes developments, which will complete their works in June 2023 with 291 public rental housing units.
Both developments have in common that they are, for the most part, intended for the elderly. The housing in the Casernes de Sant Andreu will be entirely for the elderly, while more than half of the housing in Porta Trinitat will also be for the elderly. In total, 237 of the 291 homes that will be made available to the public between the two buildings will have services for the elderly.
The meeting, which is open to all citizens and will take place on Tuesday, January 10 at 5 p.m. at the Community Life Center (C. Via Favència, 399), will allow neighbors to learn about these two new developments in the district of Sant Andreu and how to access them. But not only this.
The session will also explain the operation of the allocation process that will be done through the Register of Applicants for Housing with Official Protection (HPO), a fundamental and essential step for all those who want to access subsidized housing in the city of Barcelona. In addition, the session will also provide details of all the housing actions and services that the City Council carries out in the area.
Boosting public housing for the elderly
In mid-2023, work is scheduled to be completed on the two affordable public housing and rental housing developments in Sant Andreu, which began to take shape in October 2020 and July 2021.
In the case of the 152 dwellings in Building C of the Casernes de Sant Andreu, located at 143 Torras y Bages St., there will also be a subway parking lot and a public facility where the Jaume Oller Youth Space will be located. A building focused entirely on the elderly and which, as far as public housing in this area is concerned, will be continued with the construction of two more buildings, “A” and “J”, which will be destined for social rental and rental for young people, respectively.
Regarding the 139 public housing units in the Porta Trinitat complex, located at Crta de Ribes, 53-65 in the Trinitat Vella neighborhood, 85 of them will be for the elderly, with specific services for this typology, while the remaining 54 will be for social rent and will serve to provide an affordable home for more than 260 people. The building is included in the Porta Trinitat complex, which in addition to housing and community facilities on the first floor, will also offer a facility under construction with various services for the public, such as social services and services for specific groups such as women and young people.
