The First Deputy Mayor of the Barcelona City Council, Laia Bonet, and Pau Pérez de Acha, Director of Social and Affordable Housing and Institutional Relations of SAREB, have signed a new agreement today for the transfer of up to 200 homes for social rental. This agreement replaces the one signed in 2015, which resulted in the transfer of 143 homes that will continue to be transferred, and now 23 new homes will be added, with the possibility of increasing this number up to 200 homes. The conditions of the transfer agreed upon eight years ago will be maintained.
The 23 homes being added have been studied by the technical and social services of the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation (IMHAB) to assess whether they meet the appropriate conditions of habitability and occupancy, also evaluating the necessary investment for refurbishment. In case an investment is needed, both parties will share the cost equally. On the other hand, in cases where vulnerable families reside in homes without the necessary authorization, the City Council will provide the relevant social assistance to assess the acceptance of the offered homes and regularization of the situation with a rental contract.
The new agreement will have a duration of four years, renewable annually for a maximum of four more years. After this period, the agreement stipulates that the homes will return to the hands of SAREB, which will take over the existing rental contracts. In any case, the agreement grants the City Council of Barcelona the preferential right to purchase the homes transferred during the validity of the agreement. As compensation for use, the City Council will pay a fee of 125 euros per month for each vacant home at the time of the transfer, and 75 euros per month for those that are occupied.
The 143 homes transferred by SAREB and the 23 to be transferred with the new agreement are distributed territorially as follows:
- Ciutat Vella: 2 homes
- Sants-Montjuïc: 20 homes
- Gràcia: 4 homes
- Horta-Guinardó: 23 homes
- Nou Barris: 77 homes
- Sant Andreu: 26 homes
- Sant Martí: 14 homes
