On Monday, May 22nd, nine out of the fifteen assigned families of the building located on Carrer Jaume Giralt, in the district of Ciutat Vella, formalized the lease agreement and received the respective keys to their homes. The ceremony took place at the offices of the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona and marked another milestone in the renovation of this property, which had remained vacant until now. The remaining assigned families will receive the keys in the coming days.
These families came from housing units within the HUT program, as well as through proposals from the Barcelona Social Housing Applicants Register. It is expected that those who already have the keys will move into their new homes by the end of June, once the utilities have been activated.
The building on Carrer Jaume Giralt, located in the neighborhood of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera, consists of fifteen residential units and two commercial spaces, with a total area of 895 square meters. The purchase, carried out by the Barcelona City Council in the summer of 2022, was completed for a price of 3.5 million euros and included the eviction, subsequent renovation, and adaptation of the building to accommodate the new family units. Currently, out of the fifteen residential units, one is undergoing construction but will soon be operational.
The property is situated in the vicinity of Pou de la Figuera, an iconic environment for the neighborhood residents, with a rich history and collective memory.
