The Barcelona City Council, through the Barcelona Housing Consortium, handed over the keys to new Emergency Board apartments to eleven families in the city this Tuesday.
The event, held monthly, took place at the offices of the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona, on Doctor Aiguader Street, and was attended by the Housing Commissioner, Joan Ramon Riera.
The beneficiary families arrived gradually to make the payment of the deposit and the first rental installment and then completed the pending procedures to make the delivery effective. They also received an orientation talk about coexistence and mediation measures.
The apartments delivered today are located in the districts of Ciutat Vella, Sants-Montjuïc, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, and Sant Martí.
Housing to address situations of social and economic vulnerability
Before receiving an apartment from the Emergency Board, families have to follow some previous steps, starting by making an appointment at the Barcelona Housing Office Network and requesting the Emergency Board to assess the case and prepare a report. Once all the files are received, an analysis is conducted to allocate the available housing.
These social rental housing units are intended for:
- Households at risk of residential exclusion (such as those in the process of eviction due to rent arrears, foreclosure, and debt repayment through mortgage handover).
- Households with minors, elderly people, or individuals in situations of neglect in precarious hygienic, sanitary, or safety conditions.
If there are more requests than available housing, the Emergency Board will allocate the apartments as they become part of the Social Rental Fund until the next month’s Emergency Board meeting.
Information and the rules of the Emergency Board can be found on the Barcelona Housing Consortium’s website.
