The working group on sustainable industrial housing production of the Social Housing Council of Barcelona (CHSB) has gathered at the Casal de Gent Gran Verneda Alta to analyze and reflect on the successes and areas for improvement in everything done so far. Attendees have expressed their opinions, shared their concerns, and presented future perspectives regarding the industrialization of public housing in Barcelona.
During this meeting, a roundtable discussion was held with the participation of experts in the housing sector: Gerard Guerra (architect from the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona), Ignacio Paricio (architect and emeritus professor at ETSAB-UPC), Ferran Bermejo (technical director of ITEC), Magda Blázquez (technical architect and technical director of CompactHabit), Miguel Morte (architect and technical office manager of CompactHabit), and Elena Cartes (architect and product manager of Hormipresa), as well as various entities, companies, and political groups that are part of the working group.
A visit was also made to the two industrialized developments currently under construction by the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona (IMHAB). They are located at 22 Binéfar Street and 13 Lola Iturbe Arizcuren Street, both in the Verneda i la Pau neighborhood (Sant Martí district).
The first development consists of 24 designated homes and a space for facilities, while the second comprises 40 designated homes and a space for facilities.
The final results of these constructions, closely monitored by this working group, will be seen in the coming months.
The Barcelona Sustainable Industrial Housing Production Working Group
This group was created in 2017 to address the slow production of public housing openly and with the involvement of a variety of actors, seeking together ways to improve and accelerate sustainable housing production.
Among its objectives is to assess unmet demand and seek solutions to address it, as well as to share experiences and valid precedents used in other regions and European cities.
