Three families from the city received the keys to their homes from the Emergency Board on Thursday. Barcelona City Council, through the Municipal Institute for Housing and Renovation (IMHAB), handed them over during a meeting at the IMHAB headquarters, where the beneficiaries completed the pending procedures.
The flats are located in the districts of Ciutat Vella, Sant Martí and Gràcia and are part of the Social Rental Fund for people in vulnerable situations.
In the coming days, the families will receive an orientation session on the coexistence and mediation policies of the City Council’s Prevention, Intervention and Mediation Service for Public Housing (SPIMH).
Providing homes for those who are socially and economically vulnerable
Barcelona Housing Consortium allocates housing from the Social Rental Fund through the Emergency Board. In order to receive one, interested parties must make an appointment at the Barcelona Housing Office Network and request a report to assess their case. Once all the files have been received, an analysis is carried out to allocate the available flats.
Social Rental Fund homes are intended for:
- Residential exclusion households (such as those facing eviction due to rental debt, foreclosure, or settlement of mortgage debt).
- Households with minors, the elderly, or people in precarious conditions of hygiene, health, or safety.
If there are more applications than homes available, the Board will allocate them as they come into the Social Rental Fund until the following month’s Emergency Board meeting.
