Work gets under way on the renovation of this building in Pl. Farga, in the Sants neighbourhood. The project includes six homes with leaseholds and various communal areas. The ground-floor premises will be a workshop for the neighbourhood festival committee and a storage space for the Hortet de la Farga, ensuring the continuity of community projects firmly rooted in the neighbourhood. The lease of the land comes within the framework of the agreement signed with non-profit organisations.
With 715 square metres of floor space, the building will retain many of its original structural elements to respect its historical value. Work is expected to conclude at the end of 2026, with an overall investment of more than 2.3 million euros.
La Domèstika is a cooperative made up of six homes with a housing model based around community care and mutual support. All the homes will be protected and have below-market prices.
The work is being carried out with the collaboration of various leading organisations in cooperative housing, such as La Dinamo, which has provided the cooperative with comprehensive support, Lacol, responsible for the renovation project, La Ciutat Invisible, which has provided legal and economic support, and Matriu, providing support for coexistence.
The project comes within the framework of the first stage of the agreement signed with non-profit organisations through which Barcelona City Council has granted the leasehold of the land for a period of 99 years. With this project, the ESAL agreement now covers 20 projects which between them will see the construction of 699 public homes, 429 of them offered as rentals and 270 as leaseholds.
