The Barcelona City Council, through the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona (IMHAB), has handed over the keys to 76 affordable rental and social rental homes located on Cal Cisó Street, 49-59, and Pontils Street, 10, in the Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhood, in the district of Sants-Montjuïc. The delivery took place in an event attended by Raquel Gil, district councilor, and Gerard Capó, manager of IMHAB.
In her speech, the councilor congratulated the recipients and reminded them that the district will continue to support them in the beginning of this new life stage. Gil highlighted the city’s effort in housing, despite not having the competencies, and stated that this issue is of “utmost priority” for the municipal government.
Regarding the Marina del Prat Vermell, she emphasized that “it is a neighborhood full of life, activity, and hardworking people.” In the future, the neighborhood will host over 30,000 new residents.
Gerard Capó emphasized that the IMHAB’s goal is the promotion of housing so that “Barcelona can have an affordable rental housing stock that matches the city’s stature”.
Manel Coronado, president of the Eudard Aunós Neighborhood Association, was also present at the key handover. He expressed great satisfaction that the neighborhood “continues to grow, especially in housing,” considering the arrival of new neighbors as “very important” for the community to “share experiences and activities”.
Among the recipients, there was an atmosphere “of excitement and nervousness” about starting a new chapter and “gratitude” for receiving assistance to have a “stable” home. They all agreed that receiving the keys to their new apartment during the Christmas holidays “was the best gift”. For them, a new life begins in 2024.
What is the new development built on Cal Cisó Street and Pontils Street like?
The new housing development consists of a total of 108 apartments, 48 of social rental and 60 of affordable rental, distributed across three buildings. Building A – with an entrance on Pontils Street, 10 – has 28 one and three-bedroom apartments. Building B – on Cal Cisó Street, 49 – has 48 two and three-bedroom apartments. Building C – on Cal Cisó Street, 57 – has 32 two and three-bedroom apartments. It is worth noting that 4 out of the 108 apartments are adapted.
On the first floor, there is a communal outdoor terrace that connects the three buildings, designed as a space for community interaction with a series of planters.
In addition, the building includes four commercial premises and an underground parking lot with 90 car spaces, 19 motorcycle spaces, and a 28 m² area reserved for bicycles. The building has cross ventilation and incorporates energy-efficient eco-efficiency systems, qualified with an A.
The growth of the Marina del Prat Vermell continues
The development on Cal Cisó Street, 49-59, is the latest public rental housing development to be inaugurated in the Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhood. And there are more projects in process. Currently, two developments are under construction: one on Ulldecona Street, 2-10, and another on Acer Street, 10.
The Marina del Prat Vermell is part of the transformation of an area of the city that faces the challenge of defining a new mixed-use neighborhood.
