Work is under way in Passatge de Sigüenza, in the district of Horta-Guinardó, to guarantee the safety of a street with very run-down buildings and create protected housing. The execution of the urban plan for the Carmel neighbourhood moves forward with the demolition of the three properties in worst condition and the expropriation of a further eight.
The buildings to be demolished are at numbers 93, 95 and 97-99, which have been unoccupied since 2020. The risk of these buildings collapsing led to three more buildings being evacuated this summer, at numbers 91 and 101 in the Pg. Sigüenza and number 91 in C/ Sigüenza.
Personalised support has been provided to provide housing solutions for each family, with various alternatives offered after studying each of their cases.
The process will now start to expropriate numbers 89, 91, 101, 103, 105, 107, 109 and 111-113. Once this process concludes, work will be under way in half the affected buildings in the area.
The new urban plan for El Carmel and the surrounding area includes the transformation of Passatge de Sigüenza for the construction of protected housing.
