The process has begun to acquire a site of 785.3 square metres in Av. Paral·lel, where the former Teatre Talia stood. The site has been empty for years, with local people calling for it to be put to use for the neighbourhood. Homes with services will be built on the site and made available to young people and the elderly, with facilities to cater for the needs of the neighbourhood.
Barcelona City Council has taken the first steps to expropriate the site at Av. Paral·lel 100-102. The site will be used for homes with services, aimed at young people and the elderly. Industrial construction techniques similar to those used in the APROP buildings will be studied, the idea being to make the housing available in a shorter time frame and provide more public housing in the densely populated neighbourhoods of Poble-sec and Sant Antoni. Municipal facilities will also be housed on the site.
Former Teatre Talia
The old Teatre Talia opened in the year 1900 under the name Las Delicias, with a programme of different plays and zarzuelas. The venue was renamed the Talia in 1924 and would late offer cinema sessions as well as theatre. In the 50s the actor Paco Martínez Soria acquired the theatre, which offered a varied programme through until the end of the 80s, when it was demolished.
