The rezoning project for Sector 6 of La Marina del Prat Vermell has been approved, covering an area of more than 42,000 square metres. This will allow the construction of 893 homes, of which 424 will be social housing. There will also be a new community cultural centre and a square that will continue the main corridor through the neighbourhood, linking it to Montjuïc. This marks the start of land management to prepare the sites for construction and accelerate the area’s urban transformation.
The Urban Improvement Plan (PMU) covers an area of 42,498 square metres between the streets of Metal·lúrgia, Plom, Acer and Motors. Eight buildings will be constructed in these three blocks, providing a total of 893 residential units. Of these, 424 will be social housing, 270 built on municipal land.
A cultural centre will also be built and two existing buildings currently used for commercial activities will be preserved. In addition to the residential buildings, there will be a square in front of the new cultural facility, intended as a meeting place for local residents.
A greener neighbourhood with more homes
La Marina del Prat Vermell is expected to accommodate 28,000 residents and 12,000 homes, create between 8,000 and 11,000 jobs and transform around 75 hectares. This major urban transformation will be accompanied by a strong commitment to increasing social housing. Accordingly, nearly 50% of the almost 12,000 homes to be built in the neighbourhood will be earmarked for this purpose.
The new neighbourhood will dedicate more than 13 hectares to green spaces and promenades. In particular, the recently inaugurated Parc de les Tretze Roses, which covers over 21,000 square metres, will act as a breathing lung for the area. Two innovative environmental infrastructures will also be developed: the Ecoenergies network, which will enable energy savings of up to 20%, and the recycled water network, which will reduce drinking water consumption by around 25%.
