On Friday 31st May, the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona (IMHAB) handed over the keys to 18 social rental flats in the building at 95-97 Ciutat de Granada Street, in the Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou neighbourhood (Sant Martí district).
The beneficiaries, all of whom are registered in the Applicants Register for social housing, will spend a maximum of 30% of their income on rent.
According to specific quotas established by the regulations, the flats have been distributed as follows:
- 4 flats to families from the surrounding neighbourhoods.
- 2 flats to single parent families.
- 4 flats to people under 35 years of age.
- 4 flats to people with disabilities.
- 1 flat to a woman who is a victim of gender violence.
- 3 flats for the general public.
About the new building
The building has five floors and comprises 10 flats of 45 m² with one bedroom and 8 flats of 55 m² with two bedroom. Each flat has a terrace and a double façade to ensure cross-ventilation and maximum natural light. One of the flats is adapted for people with reduced mobility. The building also includes commercial premises, a basement with storage and bicycle parking.
Designed by Naxal Arquitectura, construction of this new development began at the end of 2021 and was completed this year. The building is located at the intersection of Ciutat de Granada and Almogàvers streets. Its orientation means that the living areas of the flats face the street and the chamfer, while the corridors connecting the flats, as well as the stairs and lift, are located on the internal façade of the block.
One of the building’s peculiarities is its two different heights: the part facing the chamfer is ground floor plus three floors, while the side facing Ciutat de Granada Street is ground floor plus five floors.
