The international conference European Network for Housing Research (ENHR), held in Barcelona
The 34th edition of the annual ENHR conference took place in Barcelona, under the title 'Barcelona ENHR 2022. The Struggle for the Right to Housing. Pressures of Globalization and Affordability in Today's Cities'. This annual conference focuses its research axes on the various internal and external factors that come into play in the right to housing and hinder the guarantees of this necessary right. The event was held from August 30th to September 2nd.
The opening day on August 30th began with the New Housing Researchers Colloquium (NHRC) aimed at researchers currently working on doctoral theses related to housing, providing an opportunity to seek critical mentorship for their work. Following that, from August 31st to September 2nd, the annual conference of the European Network for Housing Research (ENHR) platform took place, gathering professionals in housing research and specialized sectors to meet, discuss approaches and findings, and compare policies from different European countries.
During the event, attendees were able to participate in workshops led by other researchers in the field of housing, as well as in plenary sessions that covered numerous topics, such as:
- Plenary Session 1: Housing under the rule of finance in global cities
- Plenary Session 2: Reconstruction: reform and recovery in Europe
- Plenary Session 3: Rent control: models, evidence, and debates
- Plenary Session 4: New urban challenge: how tourism and gentrification are changing cities
- Plenary Session 5: Facing the green challenge: innovative designs for creating sustainable housing
This year's edition was organized by the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation (IMHAB) of the Barcelona City Council and is the homonymous platform that brings together institutions and housing professionals from within and outside of Europe. The Barcelona Metropolitan Housing Observatory (OMHB), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB), and the Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA) also collaborated in the event.
